Books & Libraries

  • VuFind
“VuFind is a library resource portal designed and developed for libraries by libraries. The goal of VuFind is to enable your users to search and browse through all of your library’s resources by replacing the traditional OPAC … VuFind is completely modular so you can implement just the basic system, or all of the components. And since it’s open source, you can modify the modules to best fit your needs or you can add new modules to extend your resource offerings.”

  • Scriblio
A Web 2.0 OPAC (developed at Plymouth State University under its former name WP-opac), this is one I’ve been getting excited about for a couple of years and for a couple of reasons. First, it’s an extension of WordPress (and I’m a great WordPress fan); second, it looks like it’s going to solve my hyperlink cataloguing problem–how do I, on web pages such as the present, tag links such that all matches to a keyword query will be displayed, on the fly, to a new page? Cross-category / multi-category links (e.g. FLOSS + SCHOOLS + DEVELOPMENT + AFRICA) should then be displayed for each of the keywords.
